    They charge $10 a month for 15 year old technology Moto cable boxes that have been paid for ten times over. They reliably raise the cable bill every January, There are reports that they are throttling Neflix and it probably won’t be long before they discourage any Internet competitors. Clearly this is already a monopoly that is consolidating it’s gains.

    No. It’s a problem for everyone, since it sets a precedent for other ISPs. Including DSL and Fiber networks. Monopolies are bad for the public. We learned this from the days of the Robber Barons.

    It’s quite a bit faster than DSL ever was and quite adequate for my data needs
    Glad you have those options, but after investigating cel tower internet services in many areas Clear is essentially the same service as Verizon MyFi. It’s inadequate for many areas. A cable is still a more reliable connection be it Fiber/Cable/DSL.

    Do you have evidence that Cox is capping your bandwidth? Otherwise,the slow speeds are usually due to bottlenecking caused by the ISP oversubscribing their service. During peak times (again usually in the evening and weekends) I would lay bets that your speed drops considerably. I don’t know what you have tried. I only have the option of DSL.
    I pay for 6Mbps down. I noticed after the first month of upgrading from 3 Mbps to 6 that my speeds were dropping considerably. I used these two websites to test my broadband: and I noticed a serious drop. I kept documentation, made call logs when contacted my ISP’s tech support and notes when field technicians arrived to test at my house. I learned a great amount, but mostly that it’s an uphill battle with defeat almost assured. The best I can do is complain to my state’s Attorney General’s office as ISPs are not utilities.

    Not true for me. DSL was a constant problem. Clear is more steady, more reliable and much faster.

    Then you are in a rare situation or possible in a more urban area. Out in the sticks, cable is still king.
