As editorial cartoonist for The Journal News in New York, Davies cuts to the chase on every major issue, deftly penetrating the spin and obfuscation to show readers what’s really at the heart. His caustic wit combines with a strong moral sensibility to render the complex comprehensible.

The stock market is back, home prices are rising, 29 months of job growth. We’d be back to full employment if the GOP had not been blocking further stimulus. You also forgot the GOP governors who either turned away the money or spent it on closing the holes in their deficits, rather than keep on teachers and other public workers.

That is correct, and every laid off or underpaid teacher is a shame, but the recovery is not about direct public work (as in the New Deal) but about private sector job growth. On this front investment by the government into fixing infrastructure would have been enormously helpful to put all those construction workers back on the payroll who got laid off when the housing bubble burst. But there is no talking to the GOP, they will wait until another interstate bridge collapses and THEN they will blame the President, you mark my words!

In 08 the Dems could have run a braineating Zombie and still would have won by a large margin, so deep was the disappointment in Bush and the GOP. Maybe Barack Obama was a bit too much for that election? Maybe the message of hope and change came over too strong? Maybe the American people didn’t realize that – by their Constitution, laws, rules and regulations – they live in a country that is very resistant to change on the political level? One word: Filibuster…

Was candidate Obama too euphoric? Sure. Is President Obama too gloomy? Not really. Re-watch his inauguration speech (or even better the cut-scenes version that Jon Stewart did). He knew what he was getting into, even before raising his hand. It’s just a pity that the people didn’t realize that he was serious when he talked about blood, sweat and tears…

….and to me, Romney = GW Bush.
I really don’t like Romney. He dodges answering questions instead of giving us specifics, his body language is stiff…. as if he was going to be caught at something.
I wonder what he’s afraid of…..
