Maria is a kid who sees things her own way- and expects the world to see it her own way too! Her friend Joey is more practical. He helps keep her grounded, though that’s as easy as handling a Thanksgiving balloon in a hurricane. Sue is special and she knows it- better than anyone. She’s writing her autobiography now, but she’ll live it later. Bob takes things slower. Ms. Payne is their teacher- she enjoys her job, she truly does. She’d enjoy it even more without the students.

danica, seems to be bust on the circuit. is it because of her, or her pit crew?

Are the child seat rules different for comics?

I am confident that regardless of actual child safety seat laws, no child was harmed in the drawing of this fictional strip.

I considered putting her in a child seat, but I wasn’t sure what the age limit is, and I don’t think we’ve pinpointed Maria’s exact age. She’s at least eight in my mind. Some cartoonists don’t even draw seat belts. I do, but they’re a real nuisance to draw without cluttering up the art. And cartoonists do tend to draw from their own childhood experiences- and I was a kid before all these laws existed. We never rode in child seats, or wore belts.

Are troll rules any different?

When I was growing up, nobody had seat belts. And my brother and I even rode in the back of our dad’s pick-up truck without any worries.

I remember some of us riding on the tailgate of a station wagon with our feet dangling below, hoping there wouldn’t be any really hard bumps (only at city driving speeds, though).

I just wish the colorist wouldn’t have colored her arms and hands orange like the seat.

Why did you call Colcam a troll by default?

Well that would be me. What happened is I forgot to put color where her underarm would be. The drawing in this strip is much looser than Working Daze- largely because I created this one with John from the ground up, whereas WD had already been established for years. While I didn’t copy Kyle Miller’s style, I didn’t vary as widely from it. And because WD is in color every day, I wanted an approach that would be quicker to color.

Well for the printed version it can be fixed. You are excused. May you live long and prosper.
