    Used to be Catholics were supposed to eat fish on every Friday in honor of St. Peter. That was changed in the ’60’s, as I recall. The lenten restriction on meat refers to land animals/mammals. Fish is required for the same reason as it used to be.

    True though some people even now think of it differently. Sure it isn’t red meat.

    One of the wonders of the world: why isn’t fish considered meat? I agree with prfessor though. It’s more of a given that “don’t eat meat during lent” refers to beef, pork, chicken…land mammals.

    chickens aren’t mammals, though they farm-bred ones may be land-bound.
