   Hoje celebramos o Dia da Consciência Negra.
   A data é dedicada à reflexão sobre a
   inserção do negro na sociedade brasileira
   e relembra o dia da morte de Zumbi dos
   Palmares, em 1695, que atuou como um símbolo
   da resistência do negro à escravidão.

   Em 20 de novembro de 1695 Zumbi foi traído
   por um de seus principais comandantes,
   Antônio Soares, que trocou sua liberdade
   pela revelação do seu esconderijo.

   Zumbi foi então capturado e torturado.

   Jorge Velho matou Zumbi e o decapitou,
   levando sua cabeça até a praça do Carmo,
   na cidade de Recife, onde ficou exposta
   por anos seguidos até sua completa
   decomposição.

   Zumbi dos Palmares é o maior ícone da
   resistência negra ao escravismo e de
   sua luta por liberdade.

   Os anos foram passando, mas o sonho
   de Zumbi permanece e sua história é
   contada com orgulho pelos habitantes
   da região onde ele pregou a “Liberdade”.
