So, it was the real goatsucker, but she’s not bloated on rat carcasses. So, maybe the rats aren’t real.

… I don’t think Goatsucker gets bloat, and she’s been doing a lot of running.

You are assuming that Goatsucker will eat as many as she can possibly consume, rather than just fulfilling her immediate hunger needs. She needs to be fast. Being overweight or bloated would impair her performance.

The pied piper is certainly a pied piper, but is he also Flimm? Or is he just a deadly diversion from the Real Evil?
(Poor Goatsucker is looking rather innocent today, I grant, having previously become suspicious of her.)

Really! Who is going to pick up the cane?? Goatsucker, get it and hit them on their heads, maybe it will bring them to senses!

Is this the same lake with the What’s-His-Name?

I thought it was “fife and drum”? There should be a snare drum, with a rat-tat-tat.

A pipe did hum, but no battle drum
    did sound its dread tattoo
Still the fair young belle to the water’s swell
marched down through the rat doo-doo.

    Apologies to Father O’Neill…

Let’s see if what the doctor said is true, can you really hypnotize a person to death?

She’s the one that discovered the first rat(s), and at the time, she thought they were worth devouring. Plus, it must have been a very long time since she’s eaten well. She had to have eaten several before realizing something was wrong. But it does illustrate that the Piper has little to no effect on her – being surrounded by a mass of rats (or goats) could be her equivalent to hearing her mother singing lullabies.

Of course, there is an antidote for anyone captivated and mesmerised by music – the POLKA!
