   Heavy bags with heavy hearts. (Actually, they are filled with not-so-glad rags and balled-up pages of newsprint.) In session, they describe the combinations that have knocked them for a loop. They dream of the duck-and-cover, the rope-a-dope, the counterpunch. But they’re beginning to understand that they were created to stand there and take it.

   Dr. Quilty has the same recommendation for all of his clients: Get yourself a punching bag so you can safely release your repressed anger. Given this habit of his, one might suppose he would have had the good sense not to assign these particular patients to group therapy. But somehow the potential risks never entered his mind.
