B. Kliban’s vast body of playful, surreal irreverent free-form work is well overdue for re-discovery. An innovator who significantly expanded the realm of cartooning, Kliban inspired a generation with his no-limits approach. His numerous books – Never Eat Anything Bigger Than Your Head, Whack Your Porcupine, Two Guys Fooling Around With the Moon among them – spread the Kliban vision far and wide, and put the term “Klibanesque” in the dictionary. His constructions – whether single-panel drawings (“Mental floss.”), multi-panel sequences (“Four Useless Motions”) or eight-panel image-poems (“Sheer Pottery”) – push fearlessly forward into unexplored territory. Welcome to his unique and compelling world.

I got so used to metric from working at a national research laboratory that I’m more comfortable with it at home. I freaked out my landlord when I told him that the temperature in my apartment was only fifteen degrees.

I heard that American carpenters measure with their feet, but I refused to believe it until I bought a house in South Carolina.

The meters smell much better.

I’d like to convert mine to Iambic Pentameter.
In western poetry, meter is measured in feet.

About 99% of the world’s countries use the metric system. Of course, we’re America! We’re right! Everyone else is wrong!

@WaitingMan
Essentially everyone but us, Liberia, and Burma are metric.

One of his best two cartoons. I’m still waiting for Moses Bringing Down the Ten Condiments.

@runar
Should have thought of that when I was in a building that was stingy with heat!
I’ve worked in labs all my life, and find the metric system a lot easier to use than our archaic system.

This cartoon is why I keep coming back to Kliban. I hope he does one for us on the Second Amendment’s “right to bear arms…”

@juniefunies
It’s not likely…unless he did one in the past.
(He died in 1990.)

Kliban was so strange that it wouldn’t surprise me if he could reach out from beyond the grave.
