Yum New England clam chowder. I wonder if it can be made with milk substitute.

It would taste crummy. Better to make it the right way and have it as a special treat if you can’t have it very often.

Suzanne, I have to go dairy-free because of allergies, and my husband makes great “cream” soups. We have my favorite Non-Dairy Cream of Mushroom Soup quite often, either as a soup or as a tetrazzini pasta sauce. I think that it’s at least as tasty (if not better) as the cream of mushroom soup that I used to love.

Here’s a link for Dairy-Free Clam Chowder that you can try out. Please be warned that I haven’t tasted this one myself, but I’m planning to!

Btw, Macushlalondra, I can’t have milk (or eggs or gluten) as “a special treat” because I get incredibly sick. But we keep on finding new recipes for my old favorites (as well as finding new favorites) that make me feel pampered, not deprived! (Yeah, there’s lots of recipes that don’t work out at all, but life’s an adventure, after all!)

Thank the Good Lord that, since more people are being diagnosed with the same thing, there are more and more recipes for the allergic group to be able to live with.

I’m not allergic, but I’ve tasted many glutin free foods and most of them are great!
