Never mind. Experience.

He’s just trying to protect the roses.
I adore men who love cats.

My greyhound loves cats. Does that count?
Although he wishes they could run faster.

Is your greyhound male? Had a Great Pyrenees once a long time ago who would cuddle up with my cat, or was it the other way around? Anyway, they were inseparable.

Protecting the roses was what I also thought of first. Thirty plus years of living with cats tells this man that Carlyle would very soon be reaching toward that bouquet.

If he thought he was the only cat in the world, then how would he know how a cat smells?

According to a discussion I just had with Clio, Diana, Mrs Murphy and Clawed-it, cats smell different than other cats. A queen smells different than a female cat that never had kittens, as does a female cat in heat, tom cats smell different than females, and kittens have identifying scents depending on their age and gender. Some odors reflect the state of health and others reflect the current mood.
