Big or small, every special-interst group has staked out its territory, and will not tolerate anyone infringing upon their “rights”!

Couple things about this clamoring for gun control -

    1) Enforce the laws on the book. Get the gangbangers and gun traffickers and put them away.

    2) Behind so many of these mass murders are untreated mental illness, or worse yet treated mental illness with all these psychotropic drugs.

As for coal….it is not clean energy, no matter how you cut it. As for gas mileage, to a point it ok, but I will not drive a tin can. Live where we need four wheel/all wheel drive.

Pollution – well, we used to have rivers that were different colors based upon what the paper mills were doing……Now people just throw their trash in them. Not sure how that worked out.

I visited LA in the 1970s. I visited last month. The Clean Air Act (and California’s even more strict emissions rules) have worked really well. Government regulation also fixed acid rain. The Northeast, with its cap and trade on carbon, has done better economically than the rest of the nation without one. More to the point, as the cartoon points out, not one of the complaints industry has made about how regulation will destroy industry has EVER come true. Look at their claims, but do so with healthy skepticism. Seatbelts didn’t shut down the auto industry, nor did the Clean Air Act. Obama’s regulations are not ideal (for that we need congress, which has pledged to do nothing), but they will work, they’ll spread internationally, and they will actually help the economy.

Just came forward with the fact that the Las Vegas shooter (m) who killed two ARMED police, was kicked off the “Bundy ranch” because he had a criminal background. So, where did he and his partner get guns? Yes, laws need enforcing, but they also need some remaining loopholes changed, like private sales and shows.

I needed a gun in a hurry once and as a convicted felon I could not legally purchase it.
It took two whole hours to get a stainless .357 S&W from the shady area of town.
I passed it on the same way when I no longer needed it.

What the cartoonist will not acknowledge, of course, is that there have been costs to our environmental laws – in some cases worth the benefit that the laws provided, but in many other instances out of proportion to what little good, if any, they have achieved. As our industrial capacity continues to decrease and the numbers of jobless continues to rise it is good to remember that the naysayers of yesterday often had a point.

Well, I asked a local Republican about these examples of “doing no good”. He came up with “no evidence at all of DDT being harmful”. Which I promptly told him was BS, and proved it, not only by showing him the actual science, but also by personal experience – I was raised on a farm before the DDT ban, we’d spray DDT and chickens would lay eggs with no shells for two days. I don’t know how to get people to understand, BIG MONEY WILL LIE TO YOU!

It’s interesting that you bring up DDT, which If used responsibly can effectively control dangerous pests without harming people or the environment. Millions of people have died in Africa who might have been saved by careful use of this pesticide.

Hmm, just a note, all the folks killed in Vegas were armed, the two lunatics, the two cops, AND the guy at WalMart who tried to stop it and pulled his gun for which he had a CCP. Come on LaPIerre, tell us again how good guys with guns always stop bad guys with guns?

And we will never know how many people were saved because that one armed citizen was there with his gun and the courage to stand up to those two thugs.

HE’S DEAD!! The citizen with a gun was the ONLY DEAD ONE! Go in a corner and figure that one out. BTW, the chick offed her husband and herself because the cops actually WERE functional, unlike La Pierre’s brain, or his followers’ (suckers).

And the birds all die because of shell free eggs. I suppose you think the ecology will not be harmed by the removal of birds?
