Still able to override the wishes of the American people AND most members of the NRA itself. Impressive. Don’t they call that “fascism” in most places?

Absolutely M.M. I found the NYT’s article about states that allow individuals to carry weapons, despite having a court protective order against them, because they have threatened/assaulted their spouses. The NRA fought for the abusers to be able to continue to carry their weapons.

Which states were those?
Oh, that’s right. you read it in the New York Times.
Bet most of those people are gun owners, too.
Just like Fienstien and Boxer.
The defeatocrats can have guns. But, not the serfs.
That’s right “do as I say, NOT as I do.”
Harry Reid helped open up the biggest shooting range in the West US.
Guess, he likes guns also.

“Fascism”
I understand that many are disappointed and frustrated by the inaction of congress. What this typifies is Washington politics at it’s worst. An election is coming in 2014 and many “red state” democrats don’t want to chance offending their constituents. Take heart that some states (Colo. and N.Y.) are inacting their own background check laws and high cap magazine laws.
Fascism? I think that might be a little strong. Aside from all else, a fascist regime wouldn’t allow any weapons in the populace, they don’t want to risk the populace turning on them and being able to overthrow the regime.
*
Webster says:
“a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition (my highlighting.

Yes, it is a tad strong. I just don’t have another word that is quite strong enough. The NRA leadership has managed to override the desires of THEIR OWN MEMBERS as well as the vast majority of the American people.

M.M. I understand completely. I get the same way but nastier when we start talking about the military and the middle east/ Africa wars.

According to a study cnducted by the CDC, commissioned by pres. Clinton, there’s no proof gun control laws have a beneficial effect on violent crime in America.
