“No drilling Obama”? Drilling has increased under his administration. Get your facts straight.

I like the cartoon tho I agree with ADK Jim about Mr. Obama. I am disappointed that congress and the president could not come to some sort of civil and respectful agreement to develop alternative energy sources in our nation. For reasons I’ve posted many times in the past, I am a fan of hydrogen gas to power electrical generators. I have also traveled to Germany where wind turbines are all over, but where there was no smog and there was a clarity in the air seen to rarely in our own nation.
I believe in our people, and our ability to innovate and invent. But we need our colleges and universities to do research like they did in past decades. Our middle and high schools are not sufficiently preparing our children to be part of these universities. And our patent laws enable corporations to protect their businesses by preventing new inventions from easily being developed and introduced. It sometimes seems that fossil fuel dependent companies will do all in their power to prevent ANY new technology from coming to the fore until the last drop of oil and last chunk of coal has been exploited.

Well said, Harley! Alway good to find a point of agreement.
IF I felt the republicans had made the same kind of good faith compromises that have happened between our two party oligarchy prior to the Bush years, I would be willing to give the blame to Mr. Obama that you do. I do give him some of it even so.
The ideas Rs give on Fox and talk radio where they feel most comfortable offer very few innovative or longsighted ideas. It is usually, “More— Of— the— Same”.
Btw, Horses and their dependent businesses did end up starving. In cities where cars and streetcar replaced horses, leatherworkers, livery stables, coachmen, carriage makers, and blacksmiths moved to the country. As the roads and cars moved out from the cities to towns…you get the point….
Just because you develop the cold fusion power source in your basement doesn’t mean millions of people dependent on energy producing jobs should suddenly be jobless and hopeless. You put the life jackets and life boats on the boat BEFORE the boat is no longer viable. That takes long thinking and a level of investment our very wealthy don’t do enough and our gov’t can no longer afford to do without ending all of their wasteful ways.
Thank you for the great reply.

Leasing is at a higher level on federal lands than at the peak level under “W”, and “oil man”. That companies aren’t drilling is NOT because leases haven’t been issued along with drill permits, period.

Reading my grandmother’s diary from 1953 this past week. In Yakima, Washington, Shell had a lease to drill on her (and many other folks and federal) lands. They DID find oil, in those old days that were far less a “sure deal” than leases issued today are. Interesting that Shell has never developed those resources where the mineral estate is privately owned, because, among other things, they’d have to pay FAR MORE in royalties if pulling oil from private or state lands! NOTE FOLKS: the proven resource has been there, untouched, since 1953!!!

Blaming this administration for holding up production is so far beyond stupid, NASA hasn’t got the equipment to reach out that far!

BTW: in a story on the Canadian train accident (it’s actually and AMERICAN rail company) it was noted the huge increase in rail cars to transport oil, because pipelines, even if the Keystone was on line, can’t keep up with current production!! Refineries likewise, “old”, but highly modified to avoid building new ones subject to stricter regulations, also can’t keep up with the SUPPLY, not the DEMAND!! That’s why so much refined product is being EXPORTED!

Sorry, but that snake only has two heads, and Obama’s isn’t one of them!
