Here we go again. Happens every year: “ZOMG GAS PRICES GOING UP OBAMA IS ANTICHRIST!!”

Maybe if we give more subsidies to the oil companies they’ll show some mercy. Maybe if we follow the tea party policy of GIVING TAXPAYER MONEY TO THE KOCH BROS to refine oil for a profit then everything will be right.

Other places tax it more, which encourages mass transit, reduces pollution, raises money, encourages economical, small cars, motorcycles, scooters, assisted bicycles, bicycling, pooling.

When you sales-tax something, part of the tax is paid by the seller.

Tax should be based on caloric content — deisel is overpriced.

A carbon tax is a no brainer. Unfortunately, the House has no brains.

Much of the tax in other places goes towards subsidizing mass transit making it cheaper. For those who say that our rail system is subsidized, I say they are right, but our auto system is subsidized greater. (All of our gasoline tax is supposed to go towards road upkeep and one cent per gallon to the EPA Superfund to clean up old filling station sites. )

Liberal taxes? The price of oil was $27 per barrel before Bush invaded Iraq and $91 when he left office.

In places like New Zealand, where “regular” is over $9 a gallon, folks use mass transit, more efficient vehicles, more efficient heating and cooling in their homes, and actually CONSERVE energy! Granted, distances between places are much less, which, well, makes an even STRONGER POINT for the U.S. to re-invest (like making the railroads given all that free land to build AND MAINTAIN railroads) in infrastructure for more efficient transportation, and energy use.

“Big oil”, is now “big energy”, a “private” monopoly on all sources of energy, coal, oil, natural gas, wind, solar AND nuclear! They make J.D. Rockefeller proud indeed, but Teddy Roosevelt, that “Republican”, shot J.D. out of the saddle, while today’s “conservatives” want to conserve nothing, but corporate profits.

It’s a free economy. So the mega-corporations can steal as much as they can get away with.

Other countries have a tax on exporting their Natural Resources. We should have one for oil products being shipped from the Gulf Coast Refineries. That Canadian pipeline oil is not for US consumption.
