Packed with humor and heart, JumpStart is a modern comic strip with a classic feel. At the core of the JumpStart family is Joe Cobb, a big-city cop, and his wife, Marcy, a nurse in a bustling Philadelphia hospital. Their jobs are easy compared to the challenge of raising four kids. At the end of the day, Joe and Marcy want what we all want: a good night's sleep. Their oldest, Sunny, is an avid reader who can answer your questions before you have time to do a Google search. Her brother, Jojo (aka Joseph Cobb, Jr.), has aspirations of being president. In fact, he already is president — of his second-grade class. Joe and Marcy's newest surprise additions are the twins, Tommi and Teddy. This talkative pair began conversing in the womb and are still going strong. Imagine what they'll say when they actually learn to speak! Rounding out the cast is Crunchy, a grouchy but warm-hearted police officer who is Joe's partner, and a host of extended family members and friends. You'll enjoy the wit and wisdom of this colorful, unpredictable cast, which includes the antics of in-laws, co-workers, a 6-year-old doctor, and a texting dog named Snoog-A-Boo.

Who are they?

Once upon a time, not too long ago (less than 25 years), you could smoke just about anywhere you wanted, except in church, in an elevator or at the gas pump, and no one cared.
I remember smoking rooms in hospitals, ashtrays in doctors’ waiting rooms and no one cared if you walked through the supermarket with a cigarette!
Now, you can’t even smoke in many public parks, open-air ballparks, and smoking has been outlawed even on some beaches.

You’re thinking of The Lone Gunmen. Sadly,they’re dead (the characters,not the actors!).

Is that Amy Farrah Fowler’s smoking monkey?

Trust me, there were lots of people who cared and just didn’t say anything.

That is the truth. It was the typical “I’m going to do what I want, and to hell with anybody else” mentality. Same thing can be seen in many things today still, but it is changing (for the better hopefully).

I’m sorry if you’re a smoker but I’m very happy about that. My sister, her children and two of my children have asthma and cigarette smoke just bothers me. Most people I’ve been around who smoked had no consideration for people who didn’t.

@Meg
Exactly. I used to quietly get away from the smoker as quickly as possible.

Plus, despite the bans, smokers, as a rule, STILL litter their cigarette trash wherever they feel like it, including beaches, etc. I am, WEEKLY, finding four or five cigarette butts at the end of my driveway, most probably from the garbage men…

We cared and we spoke up and because we were right, our society changed it’s views on second hand smoke and the harm it does. I remember how it was and our world is a much better place now.

because it can give you cancer and shortens your life span. It does not help your lungs whatsoever.

The thing about smoking is that when smokers smoke, everyone around is forced to breath it too. It doesn’t give the people around the smokers any rights. It’s unfairly putting smoke into non-smokers’ lungs. I remember before they made a law about smokers smoking a certain number of feet outside the entrance of a building – when I’d enter the door to go to work, I got to walk past the smokers on either side so I tried to take a deep breath first.
Smoke is unhealthy, and it stinks! I think part of the problem has been that smokers get used to the smell, so they don’t realize what a big deal it is to the rest of us sometimes. Although some people who smoke are considerate.

Ignorance can go a long way can’t it? Doctors knew about the dangers of smoking in the 1920’s but nothing was done.
