    Notice it’s always the boys who get “whacked”? Then we turn around and wonder why males are so violent?

    “I had to whack JoJo” No – you chose to whack JoJo. Do not be surprised when JoJo starts whacking other children. He learned from you that violence is an appropriate response to disappointment.

    That’s just silly. I was spanked as a child and had never laid my hands on other kids when I was in school. On the flip side, I know kids now whose parents do not spank but it doesn’t stop the kids from hitting others. Blanket assumptions can be more dangerous to our society than disciplining our kids.

    Naw; boys get “whacked” more often because as a group they’re more likely to do things that deserve it. (c;

    Punishment is an appropriate response to unacceptable behavior. Children are different, and different approaches work for different children.

    One of the most sensible things I’ve ever heard. Do you know Dorothy L. Sayers’ story “Talboys”? (http://arthursbookshelf.com/Horror/sayers/Striding%20Folly%20-%20Dorothy%20L.%20Sayers.pdf starting on page 77)

    A flip-flop, a fly-swatter, and a belt … if you know how these items are related to each other, you are probably NOT in jail, and are probably NOT a drug addict.

    AMEN! A Spanking is just what some kids today need.. they have no respect for their elders and no respect for authority. Unfortunately too many parents are afraid to discipline their children.

    @ampeck I think a lot of people rationalize being spanked as children by saying how well they turned out.There are other effective forms of discipline. We were never spanked, but somehow none of us ever became jailbirds or drug dealers. You don’t learn to respect someone who hits you, you learn to fear them. It may look the same, but it’s not.
