    And, if the fellow in the cartoon doesn’t pay the cable companies to run his selfie video, they’ll just block it. They now have absolutely no obligation to carry anything except what they’re paid to carry, nor should they. They have to earn a profit, that’s the American way.

    This is a case where I move towards the Socialist end of the spectrum and say that the internet should be allowed made a public utility.

    This is based on
    . The internet has become a significant part of free speech
    . Has become a significant backbone for the economy in the same matter that electricity became so
    . Presently is limited to a few major players.
    . Small towns either do not get or get at ridiculously high prices
    . Inherently monopolistic ( Requires large start up and then rapidly deteriorates in cost)

    In terms of implementation I would recommend allowing it on the municipal level with grants offered to cover start up, or done at the state level.
