It’s time to stop considering Netanyahu our President, Secretary of State, and Secretary of Defense, and realize Israel has long been the aggressor, with our help. I don’t like Iran any better, and we don’t need to see nuclear weapons proliferation, but we never stopped Israel, even when they were helping South Africa develop nuclear weapons.

Deals that might give hope for peace are better than all the ones we’ve signed onto before that have just led to more wars. Which, how about a deal where Netanyahu listens to some of his own people, and stops expanding “settlements”, and saber rattlling?

I love the smell of arrogance in the morning. The arrogance of overly simplistic cartoonists at least.

    So Michael,
If Iran is so lost, so ready to give up, why did they not just agree to abandon all nuclear activity. They have enough oil for energy for the foreseeable future in their country, they have no need for nuclear power. If they had completely given up all nuclear activity they could get a COMPLETE lifting of the sanctions instead of a partial. Then why not do it?????

Of what use is a nuclear weapon to Iran? They may well want one as a deterrent to invasion. A bomb could be used on a force massing to invade, for instance. However, the results for Iran could be even worse, from contamination of their own territory. They would have to be pretty desperate to use one in that situation. However, if I were in their shoes, with Russians and Americans invading countries right on their borders, messing around in their own internal politics, I’d be worried about being invaded.
The Iranians can’t use one on Israel, unless to pull Israel down as they themselves are immolated.
The Iranians can’t sell one to jihadists, as they have to know that the sale would likely be tracked. What if the sale were not tracked? Too many people involved for that to be likely. In any case, the source of an exploded bomb will be determined through science and intelligence sources. Then the source of the bomb becomes a target. I don’t think the price paid for a bomb could be high enough to cover the blowback.
I conclude that the Iranians want one to deter invasion.

This cartoon is missing something: The Republican cover band whose only song is “Bomb-bomb-bomb, bomb-bomb Iran”, which they play at every opportunity.

Are you really that short sighted, truly, truly that short sited. Nuclear power is about 1/15th the cost of coal and 1/25 the cost of oil after the power plant has been built.

    Never mind environmental benifits

never mind that oil is worth a @$^% ton of money, What you are recommending is the rough equivalent of saying to give up electricity and heat the house with a car engine.’

It truly amazes me that there are people whom not only don’t wish to oppose shortsightedness by actively wish to enforce it on others.

The Imam’s are not logical by western standards. They are religious ideologs, i.e., crazy as an outhouse mouse. They advocate death for their idea of heaven. That’s the big flaw in your assessment.

China declares territory, the U.S. flies in anyway, to prove international waters. Israel goes into international waters and attacks a Turkish registered ship, and the U.S. says, “So what?”.

The constant attacks by Israel, not to mention two decades occupying southern Lebanon, “for defense”, are egregious violations of international law, and Israel tells the U.N.,(which CREATED the modern state of Israel) to “buzz off”.

Morons who actually thing Iran would “nuke” Israel, with all those Arabs (Christian as well as Muslim) in their population, don’t heed the ethnicity of the “collateral damage”. They also don’t know squat about either logistics, or geography, where Muslim countries would be “downwind” of any fallout, including attacks by Israel with ITS nuclear weapons and no fear of either “collateral damage” OR getting that fallout (nuclear) back on them.

Pakistan, India, and Israel all represent a greater danger of some idiot using a “tactical” nuclear weapon (as opposed to a “strategic” one, which is totally impractical militarily in these regions). As to a “dirty bomb” being provided some terrorist group to attack the U.S., Iran doesn’t need to provide the materials, there are lots of other sources “unfriendly” to the U.S., and they aren’t all Muslim. In fact, some of our “home grown” terrorist and “nut” groups, are scarier in this regard than Iran!

hmmmmm, Israel as the aggressor. OK fine.

Let’s get in the way back machine here. Tell me trout, at the inception of the state of Israel, what was the reaction of the nations surrounding the Jewish Reservation?

Now, how many conflicts have been recorded since that time and what was the catalyst that began each one?

Is territory “won in battle” yours to do as you wish with?

Finally, do you think that every nation has a right to exist and a right to defend it’s territory?

I assume that if your neighbor continually lobbed rocks over the fence indiscriminately with no concern for the safety of your family and when confronted told you you had no right to your back yard, in fact, no right to be alive and they are going to make it their goal to rectify that problem you would go to the authorities. Correct?

What then would you do when the authorities sided with your neighbor even though you have clear title to your back yard and your right to life is protected by law?

Would you tend to get a tad bit aggressive?

^on the "way back machine’- at the end of WW I, a plan is made to divide the British protectorate between Jewish and Arab RESIDENTS. OKAY, go forward to the end of WW II, and the U.N. dividing up the land, and booting Arab RESIDENTS off their land, occupied by their families for centuries, and send in a bunch of settlers from outside, Eastern Europe, Russia, and the United States, to take over that land from those long time occupants.

Only a tiny minority of Israel’s population in 1949 were Jewish occupants who’d lived in the land before the war.

Now, you’ve owned say, a ranch in Montana for three generations in your family. The Canadian government, with the French, take your ranch away, give you nothing for your ranch, or maybe a penny on the dollar of value, and give the ranch to a group of “hippies” immigrating from, oh say, Sweden. Are YOU ticked off by this?? Because that’s what happened to Arab Palestinians, and btw, “Palestine” was recognized for centuries as a region, and both Jews and Arabs in the area were called “Palestinians”.

LIke the boundaries drawn by Europeans all through the Middle East, they screwed up in Palestine as well. That later Israelis took even more of the land they were NOT granted by the U.N., as “spoils” in an illegal war (‘67) where Israel fired FIRST on all it’s neighbors, “preemptively”.

Yes, use the “way back machine” if you wish, go back to the clan of Moses, coming out of Egypt and murdering anyone who occupied the land THEY wanted, Joshua, the sociopath and homicidal maniac, is a perfect example. But that’s okay, ‘cause he had “god” on his side, giving him orders to kill every man, woman, child, dog, and hedgehog, that stood in the way of his “conquest”- “Kill EVERYTHING” was indeed the mandate, from “God”, if you didn’t believe it, just check the “Cliff’s Notes” the “Israelites” and “Judeans” wrote themselves.

So, Bruce, given the Arabs of Palestine, Iraqis, Syrians, Jordanians, Afghans, and Persians in Iran, WHO IS defending THEIR TERRITORY against threats voiced daily by their near neighbor, and those across the ocean, and half way around the world, telling you you have no right to defend YOUR territory?

As I’ve said often, I don’t care much for the “philosophies” of almost any side in the Middle East, or South Asia as a personal choice, but it IS time outsiders, from the U.S., Europe, and Russian immigrants, gave more slack to the people who’ve been in there territories since before Moses left Egypt.
