If you wait until you can afford children you will never have any.

My wife brought forth 4. So I suppose if I had NOT been party to the project and thus no issue produced then we would have almost 2 mill in the bank………..yeah……right.

Are we to equate uneducated with stupid? Can a person be an educated member of a culture that believes having many children is God’s will but still be stupid enough to have more children than a family could ever afford?
Is a person stupid if they are married, in love, and intimate even though they can’t afford birth control?
Education and adult supervision are generally the greatest weapons in the war against teen pregnancy. Loretta Lynn said in her biography that she hadn’t even realized what it was the was making her pregnant until after her first two children were born and she was pregnant again. She isn’t stupid, but back then, she was uneducated.
I do agree tho. Stupid people should not breed. Neither should mean people. We have enough meanness and stupidity in our world. Sometimes from the same person.
$241k is a lot of money. Especially if you make less than $50k a year.
    Sadly,
    but Respectfully,
    C.

Watch the movie “Idiocracy” and you will understand the plan… LOL! The smart people hold off having kids until they can responsibly care for them, while the “low-information voters” have as many kids as we can afford.

My parents profited on the tax credit for me, they spent so little on my upkeep. I had to work outside starting at age 8. The old man still talks about Germany.

I love the example Dread Ventriloquist!
But you point out i neglected to indicate my own example was meant to imply 50k a year but raising 2 or more children. Even a half dozen(or $1.446 million) as happens in some families, by accident or by religious adherents.
I am also grateful you remind readers that for women, childbirth was often a terminal condition prior to modern medical methods. And even now, it’s no cake walk.
I always enjoy reading you, Sir, even when you are pointing out my naivete.
    Sincerely,
    C.

I’ll direct this to you, because I’m the most familiar with the nature of your opinions and I know them to be reasonable and thoughtful. This “stupid people should not reproduce” was a major subject in the U.S. in the early part of the Twentieth Century. Theories of intelligence abounded having to do first with physical characteristics and then with cultural attributes. Of course, the people in power found ways to twist theories and data to show themselves and their nationalities superior.
    .
Before I go on too long, just let me recommend to everybody here THE MISMEASURE OF MAN, by Stephen Jay Gould. It’s a sad saga, and I re-read it every few years. I wouldn’t be surprised if you, RT, have already read it.

“I was smart. I stayed single and had no children.”

“Stupid people should not breed. Neither should mean people.”

Smart people can make dumb kids & nice people can have mean offspring. Mostly, I’d like to see more education of youngsters on the impact that having a child will have on their lives. It shouldn’t put them off forever, but might make more wait till they get their lives on track…

“You are already going to buy a house or rent an apartment. But what you spend on clothing, toys, and other things is remarkably linked to where you shop that most underutilized of words…..“no.””

Yeah, but a childless couple can live in a one bedroom apartment or condo. Depending on where you live, extra rooms can add up fast. Add in the cost of the pregnancy (few people have full insurance coverage), daycare & pre-school (most women work), and you are looking at a life changing economic situation.

Unsurprisingly, people who don’t make a lot of money, say “no”, a lot more than those who do.

Btw, I wish they showed the numbers for families making under $45,000 or so. I suspect there would have to be another big drop off.
