“You, America, can actually be tricked into destroying yourself…”

I know you didn’t mean to insult me, but….I would like to correct that statement. Our elected “leaders” can be tricked into destroying our country. Example: Dubya stated that the problem was that “they hate our freedoms”, and then went after our freedoms in all different directions, from DHS to gutting FISA law, and on and on. Once freedoms are gone, they are hard to restore.

We pay a lot of people not to work. Some of them have a legitimate disability. Many do not. If not, let’s pay them to work instead; help with these bridges and tunnels, or lose your benefits.

The country’s infrastructure has been going bad for a long time. Truth is, as much as I like everything I read about Eisenhower he made the Interstate highway system to large. Highway 10 & 20 could have been one highway so could 80 & 90. Then when you look at a map, out East it looks like someone threw some spaghetti on the wall. It is simple to many roads to maintain.

“Keep the uninformed voting for dems and this will keep happening.”

On the off chance that you might be willing to consider information not coming directly from you…..

We have had serious transportation problems in Virginia. A rapidly growing population, coupled with a growth in government (Northern VA) and continuing military buildup in an area where you can only leave going west or northwest (due to water and swamps: Tidewater) have left us in a world of hurt. Roads are supposed to be maintained based on a gas tax that has not been re-calculated for almost 30 years.

We were taking road funding from a slush “rainy day” fund, but Governor Gilmore (a Republican) bankrupted our treasury and threatened our credit rating with a smoke-and-mirrors plan to “cut” our local taxes by having the state pay for them. And where does the state get money to pay for our local taxes?…..

Three governors ago, a transportation bill was passed, based partly on dedicated tax funding. Any Republican who had voted for it, regardless of tenure or value, was ex-communicated by our state Republican party, and we lost some good Republican representatives as a result.

Our current Republican governor (Bob McDonnell: remember the name when he runs for pres or VP, depending on the outcome of the current ethics/campaign financing investigation) has gotten a transportation bill passed. One of the best parts is the additional registration fee for fuel-efficient cars. Clever to use the tax laws to give an incentive to buy a gas-guzzler.

Beyond that, most of the funding is based on the assumption that Congress will force online retailers to pay state sales tax. If Congress does not pass that law, and it is quite likely it won’t, we will have an unfunded mandate.

So you can see that no particular party has a monopoly on uninformed voters. I recommend you stop being one of them.

Ima is the greatest example of “the uninformed” we have around here, but there IS a lot of competition from others of the “dittohead right”.

It continues to amaze me that Republican do NOT WANT health care to be improved in this country. They fought against Obamacare with everything they had, but they have NOTHING to replace it.
There are area where it needs to be improved, but they refuse to participate, only making vain attempts to repeal. If they were successful in repealing Obamacare, what would they replace it with?
    0. That’s a zero. They have no replacements, no improvements, no ideas. When Mitch McConnell was asked about it, his response was that America’s health care system was the best in the world. It is, if you have money, lots of it.
Not so much if you are low income.
Republicans DO NOT WANT low income people to get health care. Amazing. And disgusting.
    True patriots, all.

^ The status quo is flawed? Really?
    Not according to Mitch McConnell.
What improvements do you think should be done to the status quo?

Well, THAT’s the opposite of the truth. The Democrats have been in favor of infrastructure programs, and have proposed quite a few. All the GOP can come up with is the XL pipeline, which will create about 300 jobs, but benefits their pet industry. Bridges? We could hire tens of thousands to make bridges stronger, but let ’em fall. Tax loopholes are the only thing worth actually standing up for.
