   Yes, everyone knows that there is no waste, fraud, or abuse associated with any defense spending. There’s just nowhere that could be cut. Nothing possible.

   There’s a guy named Chris Buors who has what he says is the perfect way to cut costs. Privatize the military, hire mercenaries! His argument is that because there will be competition, why then costs will decrease because the mercenaries will compete, any company that does not produce will not be hired! I am not making this up, he already wants private policing!

   10% is not that thin. But it alright, elections are over and now those contractors can start laying off people.

   Why stop at reducing the military to a cardboard cutout? Continue on and turn it into a paper tiger. I’m sure there are no world entities that would take advantage of that.

    Really? Replacing the military with contractors would save money? You forget that that has never worked, because there’s no “free market” in military contracting. Halliburton contractors cost us more than ten times what our soldiers do. The military budget has doubled since 9/11, not counting the wars. The “Homeland Security” bureaucracy has become a huge sinkhole of money, with most accountability impossible due to “national security,” and almost no results other than graft and corruption. We could go back to Clinton era defense spending, and be just fine.

    I agree with the contractors part of your statement. Having cooks contracted was a waste of money when every unit has a Kitchen (called a Mess Section) to do the cooking. The cook in my unit when we were over there was great, he cave up a chance to be a Warrent Officer in food sanitation just to go with us to Baghdad. That’s loyalty.

    Boys and girls: your military budget is bigger than Russia, China and all of Europe COMBINED!!! And you get a lousy bang for your bucks, no pun intended. Everybody who is against “pork” in a bill should take a look at a “cost plus” contract with KBR. $20 for a meal (in Iraq) that would cost you $5 at home? Break out the potato-peelers, KP (kitchen patrol) should be brought back! And don’t get me started on magnetic rail-guns, flying lasers and exo-skeletons. All great stuff. If you have the money. Which you don’t. Conclusion: drop it!
