In the past four years corporations have earned record profits and the stock market has doubled.
Yes, the last four years have been horrible.

Just exactly how much worse would it have gotten if the Great Recession that started during the last year of the GW Bush administration (and even very conservative conservatives were doom and gloomers’ at that time) had gone on to become another Great Depression??

And no, President Obama was not the only thing responsible for keeping the country from really going over that cliff, but he did some things that helped get the country going again, even if more slowly than many would want. And most of the people of this country then rewarded him with a second term. So get over it, will you??

In looking at a couple of graphs a few months back, The graph of the Depression and this recession were remarkably similar. I hope that history doesn’t repeat itself.

Depends on whether we learn from history. It took massive government spending to get us out of the first great depression, and the GOP have blocked even a basic jobs bill, hiring needed teachers, and the rebuilding of failing bridges, though it’s never going to be cheaper than it is now.

Many economists today are comparing the current economic trends to 1936.

‘even if Donald Duck would have been in the Oval Office the stock market would have rebounded – or you would be looking for new cockroach-recipes right now…’
Maybe, but it’s good to remember that job losses were at 750,000 and increasing at the beginning of ’09. Donald Duck had no clue about what to do about it, stating only that American economic fundamentals were strong.
Maybe had DD been elected, Republican legislators might have tried helping the country rather than trying to damage it in order to make Obama a one term president.
And with demand in the toilet, corporate profits would have been way less — and since many corporations pay zero or hardly any taxes, after tax profits would not be more.
Lots of maybes about what _might _ have happened. However, the stock market did double in the last four years.

Absolutely wonderful if you own a corporation or can afford to play the stock market. But hey, as long as that’s what’s important.

HOWGOZIT is beginning to sound more and more like the End of The World on December 21,2012 paranoid conspiracy nuts! “We are all going to die, We are All going to Die, WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!”

And when we wake up on December 22, 2012, then what??

Besides which, HOWGOZIT just where did I even mention Al Gore in my post?

If we do not work with nature to actually improve our environment, then we are all really eventually going to die!!!

It’s not the only thing that’s important, but it is important.
Jobs fell off a fiscal cliff in 2008 and it’s more important to restore jobs than the stock market.
However, the stock market is important too, because millions of people have retirement accounts.
And Republicans filibustered efforts to provide jobs, but were just fine with record profits, so doubling of the stock market is better than nothing. Way better.
