Your right about that. All the trouble in the world is people trying to impose their will upon other people. We have met the enemy and they are us.

Our infrastructure is in need of repair. The bridges and roads between Democrats and Republicans are in terrible shape and everyone suffers. Blame is always assigned to the others and suspicion and anger just grows and grows until …

It’s sort of strange that humans’ evolutionary success is thought to rely on our abilities to form cooperative stable social structures and to be altruistic and empathetic. Too bad we haven’t figured out a way to make those social units large enough to include the world.

Our evolutionary success also developed our tribal mentality with a natural fear of others not like us, just like modern chimpanzees, and unlike bonobos.

Could it be a matter of scale? We do okay (not perfectly) in groups of a few hundred, less well in groups of a few thousand, not well at all in groups of a few million, and quite badly when we get to the billions.

A man shoots up a Planned Parenthood office and it’s a mass shooting and he’s a “gunman,” not a terrorist.

Nobody asked if he’s a Muslim nor do they seem to be interested in what his religious beliefs are. How are we to know what the next religious group we need to exclude from the United States is?

The Republican Party now wants to shut down the government over funding for Planned Parenthood. Have they gone soft on terrorism by giving into this terrorist’s demands?

There is no scientific proof for global warming; just the pressure of PC elitists creating the biggest scam and power grab in history. Obama is pushing for enforceable laws between countries to abide by whatever agreements are made in Paris.

Guess what the next steps are? Laws are no good unless you can enforce them. You need force eg armies and police to enforce laws.

So the next logical step is for countries to start giving up the sovereignty in order to save the planet from “evil humans”.

What they fail to tell you is that some of the most prosperous and abundant times for humanity have been during weather spells with temperatures higher than there are today. CO2 is what plants breath, so slightly warmer temps, more CO2 means lots of crops.

I hear about the ice caps melting and then read articles and see satellite photos of the ice caps actually increasing by as much as 65% – which is it?

Whether we are on a slight uptick in temperature or not is debatable – but those variations have happened for thousands of years. Volcanic eruptions and animals create more CO2 than humans do.

Do we really want to hand over our country to a world government in response to dubious data? Recall that Al Gore said that the East Coast would already be under water by now.

If we are creating the extra warmth then lets prove it without diddling with the data (which has been proven). And let’s honestly assess if it really is a threat and what the consequences are. otherwise to me it just looks like another means of bringing the US down to its knees and giving up more control of our lives to politicians that don’t really have our personal interest in mind.

Well, bonobo social units are matriarchal and chimp units are more patriarchal.

    From Wikipedia:
Anatomical differences between the common chimpanzee and the bonobo are slight, but sexual and social behaviours are markedly different. The common chimpanzee has an omnivorous diet, a troop hunting culture based on beta males led by an alpha male, and highly complex social relationships. The bonobo, on the other hand, has a mostly frugivorous diet and an egalitarian, nonviolent, matriarchal, sexually receptive behaviour.24 Bonobos frequently have sex, sometimes to help prevent and resolve conflicts. Different groups of chimpanzees also have different cultural behaviour with preferences for types of tools.25 The common chimpanzee tends to display greater aggression than does the bonobo.26

Maybe we need to hope for a change in social structure to something more like the bonobos?

I think it could well be dependent on scale, at least to some extent. I haven’t got refs at hand on this, but I seem to remember reading of some studies on the number of social interactions that humans can sustain productively. One problem that I think is seen lately is the reduction of real interactions in modern human society, a sort of self-segregating with less real contact. Bob Putnam’s work on this subject is one example (“Bowling Alone”, “Our Kids”).

We evolved as a tribal species, clustering around our bonfires, knowing that we had to go kill those guys around that other bonfire and take their stuff, or they’d come kill us and take our stuff.

But human civilization has progressed far, far faster than our evolution. In a scant few thousand years we have built a globe-spanning empire that all but forces us to coexist, pressures us to give up biases and accept others as equals. But there is that spot in our unevolved brains that says “he does not look like me, so he is the ‘other’ and must be destroyed.”

The intelligent among us see this as an impediment to our progress, and reject it. The unintelligent among us see this as the “natural way of things”, and embrace it.
