The Conservative pundits all jumped to Bundy’s defense assuming this was a cut and dry David and Goliath story where they could make the US Government the bad guy. And to be clear – The US Government did a fine job of trying to be the bad guy: Showing up with armed thugs which enraged the locals; Spouting off about how important the turtle was; Failing to recognize how this would look, etc.

To me this looked like a Welfare queen in Western duds but I wasn’t sure because I couldn’t imagine why his tea party friends would be defending him.

It wasn’t until I realized that the Tea Party, like Sean Hannity, were willing to overlook a lot of inconvenient truths to paint the Government as the villain.

This Bundy was a doofus BEFORE he started prattling off about minorities and states rights.

Well now they are all getting what they so richly deserve.

I do fault the government for not following due process. They should have served a warrant for his arrest and tried him in Federal court. I am very tired of Jack Booted thugs showing up in the name of Justice and brutalizing citizens and neighborhoods. It sure looks to me like a Tyrannical Central government (centered in the East) trying to dictate what is best for the rest of the United States.

The Federal Government has lost an awful lot of moral authority given the Stupid they have visited on the rest of the United states.

    Very well put. Thanks.

I felt it was only a matter of time before those who loved Mr. Reagan’s comment about government being the problem would believe that it would be patriotic to oppose the government. As usual in these cases, I hoped I was wrong. As usual, it turned out to be true.

HAHAHAHAHA! Wow, you’re so wrong I cannot begin to respond. You are ignoring the actual story to do some kind of rant against Danziger — why?

Perhaps you should go read the facts again. Bundy did not pay taxes for use of government land for TEN YEARS. The government sent him many letters, which he refused to open. He and his wife both specifically mentioned that they were armed (Bundy said he was stockpiling, his wife said she had a shotgun and would do what was necessary, which sounds like an open threat), after which the Feds showed up, armed as they normally are when facing down an armed and threatening person — would you like to go in unarmed? — and then WITHDREW specifically to avoid bloodshed.
Of course they followed due process. They sent a tax collector, as they have to other people, to repo his cattle unless he paid his taxes.

@Condoreggs – I have little (not no) sympathy for the BLM officials. They handled this poorly from start to finish. And they are part of a greater organization that has operated as thought they are above the law for many years now.

I’ll say it again – The Federal Government has lost the Moral Authority to dictate behavior to it’s citizens because it is no longer acting as though it is held to the same laws that it would hold us too.

Kangaroo Courts Rubber stamp Illegal Government surveillance of ordinary citizens. Senators defend this in the name of keeping us safe from the Boogyman (Usually Al Queda but they have other villains).

Federal Agents routinely kick in the door of honest citizens and then offer a half hearted apology when it is proven that they got the wrong address.

An increasing number of laws roll out of Washington to take away the freedoms of ordinary citizens: Seatbelt laws, Food laws, drug laws, Minimum wage laws, etc.

The President and his Chief Crook (I mean attorney General) are cherry picking laws to suit their needs in blatant violation of the constitution.

You should not be surprised that ordinary citizens assume malfeasance from any federal government official that shows up at their door.

The BLM could have requested the US Marshals serve a summons to Bundy and required him to answer charges in court. He did go to court on several occasions so that approach worked. But this time the BLM wanted to look like Big Men so the JACK BOOTED THUGS showed up as his farm with Guns and Dogs and started throwing their weight around. And then they were genuinely surprised when they were welcomed as heros by the locals.

By the way – Ask yourself this. Why did they need to shoot cattle? I’ve worked on a cattle farm and they aren’t that hard to manage without resorting to shooting. They just wanted to terrorize the locals. Look what we can do to your property if you don’t comply with our requests.

The Federal Government must be Of the People, By the People, FOR the People. Anything else is Tyranny.

And for all that I still think Bundy is a Doofus.

And apparently WELFARE RANCHER Bundy has 14, FOURTEEN KIDS on his porch! Hmm, this is an area of Nevada that also holds some of those holdout Mormon groups practicing polygamy, does this account for his numerous progeny?

^How ‘bout those ranchers putting cattle out on open WINTER range to calve, so they don’t have to pay the grazing fees on those calves( it’s an age of the animal thing) and write off all the losses to sub-zero weather killing cow and calf as “coyote damage”.

One of the problems we have now is the left taking a broad brush and painting every conservative a bigot, based on this one guy. Hmm, wonder where we used to hear that metaphor?

I watched the entire interview and didn’t benefit. Like many others, Bundy is not evil, but his ignorance supports a lot of harm being done to people he doesn’t even know. (He’s also a free-loader who owes you and me a million dollars.) Hannity, on the other hand, probably isn’t as ignorant, but his need for the spotlight also harms many people who don’t deserve it.
