Because the “it’s okay when OUR guy does it” mentality stretches across both sides of the idiot divide.

Quite a number of those Conservatives refuse to resign.
But at the end of the day, it’s a conservative state. Both candidates are fairly conservative. Busch was likely done in at the end by the robo-calls / push polls.
It won’t change the makeup of the House and it’s always nice to see another embarrassing Republican in Congress.

cdward: Yeah. He’s a broadcaster. What does that have to do with being a member of Congress.

Be a big enough hypocrite in the “bible belt” and you can get away with dropping your drawers, and if you’re an “evangelical leader” like Haggard, you can even beat out Sanford and play with boys and be forgiven what YOU have defined as the deadliest of sins! And yes, before the “righties” get started, prior to the passage of the Civil Rights Act, these southern “Republicans” WERE mostly “Democrats”, and both parties have changed, and reversed positions in many areas.

But unlike those with the Confederate battle flag on their cars, pickups, T-shirts, houses, or Capitol flag poles, some of the world is living in today, not 1861.

“Why don’t the liberals love him? Clinton did every skirt in the White House (except for Hillary of course, but that’s understandable) and liberals still think he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread.”

I’ll try to answer all as an accused liberal. In my opinion only, extramarital affairs are none of my business, and they do not necessarily (depending on family circumstances, level of guilt, etc.) make the person unfit to perform a job.

Clinton is lovable because of his charity work and his Clinton Global Initiative, as Carter is lovable for his work with Habitat for Humanity and other charities, as opposed to Reagan and the Bushes, whose altruistic desires to help humanity became invisible when leaving office.

The problem that anyone—not just liberals—should have with Mr. Sanford is that he left office, left the state, left the country, left the hemisphere, without telling anyone where he was going or how to reach him. He went AWOL, without any notice about when or whether to expect him back. Then he came back and lied about where he’d been.

This is a violation of the public trust that comes with being in government, and should therefore disqualify him from being trusted with another government office. Put another way, try taking off from your job; don’t let anyone know you’ll be gone, don’t contact anyone while your gone, take as long as you like. See if you have a job when you come home. Then there is the additional disqualification for presenting himself as a defender of family values.

Regardless, to many people, if the candidate has the “correct” party affiliation, it matters not whether the candidate is the best one for the job.

“When a conservative does shit, they have to resign and then get their life back together.”

Sanford refused to resign, even when Republican big shots told him he should.

Hiking the Argentinian Tail gave him a religious epiphany and turned his life around. Why can’t people accept that? Tax money well spent.

Those are “family values” Republicans. Keep ‘em dumb and they’ll vote for you every time. Works well here in Texas, too.We elected Ted Cruz.

A Republican in SC could rape a child on live TV and still be elected. They would just give him the benefit of the doubt since he’s GOP. “I’m sure he had his reasons for doing that”.
