I agree that Hagel’s problem is that he refuses to toe the Republican Party line. They still believe the “for us or against us” absurdity of W.

Chuck Schumer is the worst of sycophants, whose loyalty is displaced and whose shameless political brown-nosing is an embarrassment to New York state.

It is pathetic. A politician tells the truth and the republican heads explode.

This is the truth. Many Israeli politicians are far more critical of their government than most members of the U.S. Congress who assume a knee-jerk loyalty to Israel no matter how wrong they are.

I have some questions from a strategic perspective.

Do you believe that Iran’s leaders mean what they say when expressing the goal of:

1: establishing a world wide “Caliphate”?

    2. that the first step in doing that would be to “wipe Israel off the face of the earth”?

3> and that eliminating the US is the final step in that project?

Perhaps you just see it as innocent “saber rattling”

So, the US backs away from supporting Israel, Iran (through the PLA, Hezbollah, Lebanon, the Muslim Brotherhood and Syria) attacks and defeats Israel (not likely). how exactly will that effect life in the US?

Hagel was simply right, the right-wingers in Israel and AIPAC are NOT the friends of the US, or interested in a lasting peace in the Middle East, unless the most extreme of minorities, the ultra-Zionist Jews, rule the world. Palestinian Arabs, as well as other non-Arabs (like Iran) have more than adequate history to show that Israel has been the aggressor in the ongoing “wars”, and attacks on neighbors. Israel was created by the UN by taking land (yes, over the years, Jewish residents DID buy legitimately some of that land), and creating a “nation” that was supposed to be a “homeland” for both Jews AND Arabs.

The twisted and distorted history of evangelicals in this country who support the oppression BY the Jewish right-wing in Israel, indeed opposed by moderates and “liberals” in Israel, distorts what comes up in our Congress, and it is time we realized Israel is NOT our 51st state, and Netanyahu is NOT our Secretary of State, a Governor, or Speaker of the House and President of OUR Senate.

It is time to pull the wolf cub off our collective teat, and teach it some manners, and restrain its predatory instincts.

Just my opinion, but I think there are complications to this whole discussion. I am perfectly happy to be critical of Israeli policy about the West Bank and Gaza Strip — the settlements are both illegal and a very bad idea — but I also think that Israel deserves to live in peace within secure borders. In my opinion, Israel in the long term is not helping its own cause, but most of the Islamic states in the neighborhood are also way out of line. The US should make it clear to Israel that there’s no blank check, but it also has to make it clear to the world that Israel (within its proper borders) should be left in peace.

I visit daily – and I’m sure I’ve seen this ‘toon before. When I looked at the date (in the lower left of this one), I noticed January 13, 2012. Are drawings that old being recycled? Hagel was nominated on January 7, 2013 – so what’s going on?

The world caliphate is a Sunni Salafist idea. salafists and Shiites do not play well. Salafists consider Shiites to be apostates.

The Republicans problem with Hagel is simple. He was a Republican that served in the military. “Real” Republicans avoid military service like the plague. Service is for chumps, doncha know?
