Jane's World is best described as a smart ensemble comedy, blending the classic comic strip style of Lynn Johnston with the racier writing style of shows like Sex and the City and Friends. Jane is the lesbian heir to the hard-luck Charlie Brown, somehow always winding up as the punch line in her own comic.

Are there any straight women in this strip? I can get that lesbians would tend to hang out with each other, but it seems like every woman Jane meets is gay.

@Gweedo Murray, that is reason enough to stay out of California. Illinois is bad enough due to Chicagoland but that is too much.

Odd – here in Georgia we have to pass a smog test every year. We’re more strict than California?

In Knoxville, Tennessee, they just lowered the speed limits instead of requiring smog tests. They said slower speeds would make less smog. Problem was, no one slowed down. They can now write bigger speeding tickets.

The Vdub was a ’68, its exempt from smog certification.
Back in the 80’s I had a ’71 Vdub, back then they were still required to be smogged, the basic air cooled design of the engine meant it was almost impossible to pass the test and still run with any effect, so the smog guys would set up the engine to pass the test, do the test, then reset everything back to where the engine would run again. Later bugs, ’75 and on, had smog controls added but it really clogged up the engine compartment, That was a big reason VW decided to pull new bugs from California market by 1980.

In my weird country (Texas) we have to be inspected and have smog tests once a year. So we have the worst of all worlds.

I think Dixie is still straight and there is Jane’s mother.

Dorothy is straight….
but only when it’s a few weeks after the last time Jane fell for her again.

And I think maybe the new redhead is straight….
or at least she hasn’t punched Ethan’s lights out yet.
Hard to say, at this point.

Some states have smog tests every year, but here in CA it’s every 2 years. The catch is that they’re way harder to pass in CA than in other states. That’s also why when there are new cars there are 50 state cars (will pass in CA) and 49 state cars (won’t pass in CA).
