Jane is the lesbian heir to the hard-luck Charlie Brown, somehow always winding up as the punch line in her own comic.

Not a big road trip. You can get to San Fran from just about anywhere in California in a day. The strip says they are in an undisclosed town in CA, right?
Maybe they get stopped by ghost Highway Patrolmen who search the van for dope.
