The convert is the most rabid believer. More Catholic than the

    Pope, as the saying is….

How old is this strip? You haven’t been able to smoke in public (thank God) in eons. But, it’s still funny.

For a while, in tiny pockets, there are still some public places where smoking is still allowed indoors….

To be honest, a lot of people in the metro area I live in, will light up and smoke and breathe the “smoky air” right in the faces of the people nearby, who don’t want to be near, nor smell the smoke… especially at the bus stops, where there is ample space to back up….the smokers will puff and blow and not even move away from those who don’t wish to inhale, and though people complain or try to show that it is unwanted, it goes…. "unnoticed’…

When I was a cigarette smoker, I would try to ask if it was bothering anyone, or at least try to move away from the general crowd when I lit up….

And when you smoke, you don’t notice the odor that it gives off, until you stop smoking for a while… I had to move a family member and their things were loaded with the smoky odor, even a long time after one stops smoking… My wife also has a gift from a family member, who owned a famous collection of “dolls from around the world”.. but upon opening, the smell of smoke permeated the doll through and through…. my wife is asthmatic and also allergic to smoke… it is difficult to even visit some family, as the smoke hits as soon as you open their door, even if it’s been hours long after…. this is why I personally can sympathize with the grumpy old ex-smoker, here… though it is funny how withdrawals are said to make one kinda grumpy, Lol!

He just quit smoking himself? Good grief – I should think that would be rather painful. Which part of himself did he light?

…when I was a smoker, I swore that when I quit I would never become one of those people, and I haven’t. I quit over 5 years ago, and I don’t like the smell of it in closed places myself (gives me a headache) but i think that some of the laws going into place now are very extreme (no smoking at all in some parks, etc…) I have a lot of sympathy for smokers now…VERY difficult to quit, gov’t is taking HUGE amounts of taxes from it, and turning you into a pariah for indulging in a perfectly legal activity to boot…

Have some friends who, after they quit smoking went and apologized to everyone for how bad they used to smell when they smoked. Only realized it after they got their sense of smell back.

Many countries still allow smoking in public.

Coming up to 10 years for me. For the first 4-8 months I would go to our smoking “pit” armed with a coffee and a piece if fruit. And enjoy the banter and gossip.

After my father lost his larynx to cancer he was most unhappy with people who kept blowing their smoke in his face.
I just smiled when he griped.
He could not believe he had done the same thing to me and others all those years.
    But he HAD.
I still loved him and miss him.

…smokers are (were) very social – much more fun to hang around with than the non-smoking crowd…

It’s been a lot of years since I quit…and I also did not want to bother anyone…Never smoked in the house, especially never around kids…I’d go outside…It came to me when I was freezing my butt off outside, that this is nuts and just quit…My folks smoked in the house all through our childhood, in closed cars too…
