Those who speak German (“gesundheit”) and Spanish (“salud”) merely say, “health.”

Never did understand why we acknowledge a sneeze in a positive manner yet belches and flatus are socially unacceptable, All three are ways of the spirit or soul escaping the body (the whole point of ‘bless you’ or ‘health’ said after a sneeze), and sneezes spread more germs than the other two, endangering the health of those within range, including the ‘blessors.’

And it’s not “politically correct” anymore: the more P.C. term is “societally consciencious”. (grin)

Because it was once believed that the violence of a sneeze temporarily displaced the soul from the body, so a blessing was invoked in case it didn’t get back in and you died.

Into your elbow Jamal. Spread fewer germs that way. But, wash your hands anyway.

A sneeze is an itch scratched. Why it can feel so good.
