“People on the right talk about how someone doesn’t pay income taxes, and hope that their listeners fail to notice the word “income” and forget about all the other taxes lower-income working Americans pay.”

    Happy Labor Day, Mr. Payne.

Umm….. Do you mean the other taxes we also pay on top of the 30% the government takes from our income?
ID be doing fantastic if I only paid the 7% sales tax instead of property tax, state and fed income tax, payroll tax, and soon to be ObamaCare Tax adding up to about 50% of the middle class workers income.

Nah, onguard. Romney only paid the same rate on EARNED income. The vast majority of Romney’s income was taxed at a far, far lower rate than mine, because he’s rich, and the rich get special treatment in America and don’t have to pull their fair share.

Buy a congressman and have him rewrite the tax laws for you like everyone else does.

Perkins, enjoy the heck out of yourself, it IS Labor Day. Screw that boss that obviously made you come in on the holiday.

This must be Payne’s way of saying you don’t deserve the day off or the recognition. After all, he favors the “conservative” policies that offshore American jobs.

If you’re so enthralled with taking responsibility for yourself, why not adjust your income sources and hire some good tax people, so you could pay 13% like Romney?
    -
Don’t you know that only the little people pay income tax at that rate?

    “Same for all Americans…..It’s Fair.”

As someone who claims profound understanding of the Tax Code, can you explain why Soros, Romney & Buffet pay a lower rate on their income than I pay on my income? I’m thinking of incorporating myself & claiming the money I earn as executive stock options in Me, LLC.

Income tax + grocery sales tax + restaurant sales tax + gasoline tax + property tax + parking lot “fees” + toll booths + book rental + the cost of water or the electricity to power the water pump at your well + the costs of heating and cooling + the additional money paid at stores to compensate for shoplifting + the additional costs to hospitals to compensate for ER visits by people who can’t pay + union dues + so many fees equals a real challenge for a nation whose middle class is being paid less and less while being asked to contribute more and more.
This doesn’t include our neighbors who have been devastated by weather events, or by the pension managers losing their retirements, or by the negligence of businesses who put profits over safety and peoples’ health.
There has to be a civil and respectful way to run a capitalist democratic republic. We aren’t doing it yet.
    Respectfully,
    C.

Hmm, after years of spending most of my time in “field” work, and then having to spend more time in the office (one of the curses of getting “promoted”), then they moved and I went from an office with two other people, to a cubicle environment. It was only two months before I turned in my retirement papers four years before originally planned, as the cubicles were hazardous to my health, and those fellow employees who discovered my “startle response” when they’d walk in and touch me! PTSD and cubicles are NOT a good mix!
