Sorry, but I cannot be around “memorial services” that use “gun salute”, and almost all do. Memorial Day IS about saluting and honoring those who died., and I DO that. Veterans Day, is about “survivors”, which brings me to why I see Memorial Day as a reason to bring up those current “survivors”.
With 4, 5, or now even six deployments, in conditions, and exposure that FAR exceed WW II (average 10 days out of four years in “contact”) or even ’Nam, (256 days average “contact”) these folks are seeing MUCH LONGER exposure. They are also setting records, sad records, for suicides as a result.
That is why on this Memorial Day, I think of “dead men, and women, walking”. MORE HAS TO BE DONE!
