Shouldn’t it be Jimmy Carter via the mariel boatlift? Where Fidel emptied his jails and mental hospitals?

Yes and no. He set us up for failure, primarily because he challenged Congress to come up with a more usable immigration policy for the future. Congress was not up to the task. Congress seems never to be up to any task. And still to this day, some members of congress go on record to say that this has to be addressed, but this is just the wrong time to do so.

Shouldn’t you shut off the water before fixing the leaky tap. Don’t you turn off the electricity before repairing that outlet. Shouldn’t you close the border before……. Oh never mind. You Americans never seem to learn.

Everything I’ve been reading about this affair is totally at odds with this ’toon! The service centers in Texas and California are flooded with these kids. There are not enough workers and judges to handle the flow of daily arrivals. In fact, Obama just asked congress for $2 billion (yes, TWO billion dollars) just to speed up the process and care for these kids.

Care to know what the costs will be to us over the next 15-20 years if these kids stay? And later, bring the rest of their families?

You’re right. We should be more like the Iranians, who will jail anyone coming over the border. Or shoot them. Those people know how to deal with excess humans.

Or: answer #2: These kids are not just looking for day jobs. They are refugees, not unlike those who flee Syria, and who flee Darfur. Although the neighboring countries do not treat the refugees to surf and turf, they don’t “secure their borders” due to humanitarian concerns.

Simple answers often do not work on complex problems. Best answer is to work on the cause, not the effect. What can be done to make these kids’ parents feel that their kids will be able to live safely in their own homes? If there’s no reason to send them here, most of them won’t. Wouldn’t you rather have your toddlers at home instead of on a pilgrimage to a place that you know they aren’t wanted?

you just answered your own question. immigrants = dependence = pit = you are ignorant and bigoted, because obviously people are people and deserve help and each case is different.

What is the cost to our souls if we don’t help people in desperate situations?

What will you do when you run out of other people’s money? How much of your personal income are you spending on these kids? Have you quit your job to go wipe noses and teach them English?

Yes, following the law and deporting them safely after granting them due process is horrible. Terrible. And we shouldn’t spend money — we should simply build a huge wall and hire more guards, which costs nothing.

What’s going on at the border is a well choreographed crisis of one person’s making. SQUIRREL!

So how many are you taking into your home? Five, ten, more? You can support them until they turn 18. Hope they are not sick with TB or some other weird disease. Good luck.
