“…If you have been waiting on this line more than four hours consult your physician as it could indicate a life threatening condition…”

What will be hilarious is when the government has direct access to your bank account and accidentally adds an extra digit to your payment.

Um, how long has it been since you’ve had to call your health insurance company? The current “system” that is not a system, isn’t so great either.

And, again, just to add perspective: when was the last time anyone called a free-enterprise private business for advice/tech support/information? If you’re like me, you lost count of how many times you were told “Your call is very important to us” (NO IT’S NOT! If it was, you’d have answered by now), because of the amount of time that went by.

My favorite is when I call my internet provider because my service is down, and I hear 45 minutes of recordings telling me that I can accomplish the same thing on the web.

And, as zzazzenn pointed out, private health insurers are no better. When I have to defend a prescription I’ve written (usually with the argument that if you pee in the patient’s eye, it will work as well as the drug YOU tell me should be used instead), I am on the phone at least 45 – 60 minutes. This means that sometimes prescriptions are delayed for days because there is no time between patients to waste an hour. And don’t try to call after hours….they went home long ago.

Thanks, McCoy, for reminding me that the Republicans’ idea of government is to give the broken (financial) … err… health system to the same people who broke it in the first place. Even Alan Greenspan has been giving interviews these days regretting that the private bankers did not “self-regulate” as expected (there goes the neighborhood).

@Loy Wells: Single-payer is coming? Oh, how I wish! That’s what we really need, and it’s the obvious solution. It’s also how EVERY SINGLE INDUSTRIAL DEMOCRACY that has it in place gets BETTER HEALTHCARE RESULTS at a FRACTION OF THE COST PER CAPITA than we do. In the meantime (I hope) the ACA is better than leaving health insurance to the for-profit market – which REALLY couldn’t care less if you live or die, so long as its margins and executive salaries are good.

Who was responsible for hiring incompetent contractors and/or providing them with inaccurate system requirements?

I have to admit, I like your post, but you forgot about the Democrats Outrage Machine.

What I see is a repeat of exactly what’s been happening in defense, and every agency, since Congress (mostly Republicans) forced “contracting” as the primary method of “operating the government”. Time and again, while singe occurrence, short-term jobs, have proven to be cost effective under contract, 99.9% of all contracting, especially for lengthy or ongoing operations, have been however proven to be far cheaper, and more efficient when run by government. Sorry, “righties”, it’s just a documented fact by OMB, and CBO.

BTW: after 18 months, Florida still hasn’t “fixed” my mom’s Medicaid screwups, and it only took three months to get her PRIVATE supplemental company’s policy straightened out! When some states’ governors CHOOSE to make the system not work, like Florida and Texas, one can ask questions as to their intent??

Hence the decision to create a health insurance mandate, a moment away from UHC. Then again you can get back to fortifying your dog house for when black helicopters start coming

At least glance at the news before you start drawing, Glenn. The site IS the result of your much-vaunted “free market” and the screams for saving money from your lunatic fringe heroes. It’s called “lowest bidder.” And most of the problems stem from all the “protections” the GOP insisted on to make sure that everyone was doublechecked and harassed to make sure they weren’t getting more than their fair share, or, to put it another way, to make sure “free market” insurance companies continued to rake in exorbitant profits on the backs of the American people.
Other’n that, this is a pretty good cartoon. Yupyupyup.

Americans pay 80% more for health care than the rest of the G8 and have the lowest life expectancy and highest infant mortality in the OECD. It is a predatory system run by and for one percenters. It is not called the Affordable Care Act for nothing.

“Obamacare” is the free market— all it does is allow people, for the first time, to be able to actually compare apples to apples and actually compare prices. In the past that was impossible since the fine print of the plans were hundreds of pages long, and you’d only find out what it didn’t cover when you got sick.
