    We are supposed to have a separation of church and state here in the USA. Unfortunately, the US religious “right” is trying to make this a theocracy. I am not sure how they would go for the vatican interfering with their turf. The hard right wants all the money for itself, the vatican wants all the money for itself, and they would be loathe to share it with each other.

    Considering the partisan divide in our country and the inane remarks made by both sides I see no reason why almost anyone with a functioning brain couldn’t do better. Personally I would like to see a bi-partisan committee of truly middle class housewives turned loose with their budgetary skills to hammer out a budget. They understand the power of “No.”

    yes, because choosing a pope is as easy as coming up with a budget – and certainly the vatican is problem free.

    Please explain how anything Kent wrote in the comment you are referring to is Bull excrement. Sure Clark has some off the wall comments from time to time, but today, please do enlighten us.

    OK;
    1. Largest charity provider of health care today.
    2. As for separation of Church and State it is the State that is forcing itself on the Church to include not talking about politics on the pulpit.
    3. The right gives more to Charity then the left.
    4. So if 1 & 3 are correct why would they loath sharing any money even if there was a situation that called for it.

    “…We are supposed to have a separation of church and state here in the USA…” When the President says: ‘There is no Debt Crisis’.
    People will turn to a strong-man for solutions. I would say the Pope can be considered a ‘strong-man’.
    America will give away its freedoms to have a leader that will make them feel safe.

    And those airplanes are spraying chemicals on us and vaccines are a right wing plot to kill our children with assault needles. (Cue Twilight Zone Theme)

    I don’t think we are so far gone we will give up our freedoms to make us feel safe. Look at all the purchased guns in the last eight weeks.

    Does the PATRIOT Act, the chosen ignorance of FISA law and the Geneva Conventions, and TSA strike a familiar note? I see lots of freedoms willingly given up in the name of the “war on terror”.
