    Ok, lemme get this straight.

Bush passed laws that allowed him to read your emails, keep lists of who you talk to on the phone, what websites you visit, what library boooks you took out, what purchases you’ve made, what countries you’ve visited, how much money you have, where you keep it, and what sort of financial deals you have made. He passed laws enabling him to arrest you without charges, imprison you for life without trial, deprive you of any legal representation, ship you to foreign countries, torture you for information, and have no requirements for informing your family. And that’s acceptable.

But Obama wants better background checks for gun buyers and THAT is what is destroying your freedom.

    Got it.

Well I’ll be shucked and eaten on a cracker. You read the executive orders.

Obama promised to change things. Nope sorry he didn’t and just went right on with the progressive destruction of the USA. Soon, you will have a real problem with the nation to your south. I’d start building that fence.

You clearly didn’t even see the intent behind this ’toon. Are you just looking for a platform to spout your hate for conservatism, or are you actually willing to see that this cartoon is geared towards saying how much hate there is in our nation? Or world, for that matter. This seems like a pretty non-partisan ’toon that I think we can all agree on: There is too much hatred in this world.

Ok, I agree with you that the first comment was misplaced with this particular toon – that there is too much hatred in the world, and let’s hope the next generations will find ways of dealing with it.
    .
But Dr. Canuck’s post was not about hatred, but hypocrisy. And yes, doesn’t deserve to be associated with this toon.

Kinda’ surprised, most “centrist” message I’ve seen Glenn come up with in a long, long, time. The central word IS the central problem in America today. It IS time to rid ourselves of the fear, that leads to all the other prejudices.

Its possible the Dr was replying to someone who deleted their statement.

Actually, you don’t have it. The Patriot Act was designed to protect the rest of us from terrorism. There has to be a reasonable suspicion before any of that can take place.

Oh……by the way………I don’t object to background checks prior to purchasing firearms, I don’t want criminals to have the weapons. Make them illegal and only criminals will have them. Criminals will not turn them in.

That is precisely why I usually quote the comment I’m replying to.

You’re a little light on a few other facts Doc. Obama just extended the Bush Patriot Act and added more provisions of his own. It’s one more element of the continuation of the Bush presidency. He is still maintaining the “expired” Bush tax cuts, GW’s favorite prison-Gitmo, continued and accelerated GW’s war in Afghanistan, ramped up GW’s drone program, added another unpaid entitlement program, continued GW’s deficit and added to it, increased the divisiveness and lack of transparency in the government, etc, etc. In some elements of our society his motives and actions are considered suspect. Oh well, he just turned his campaign organization into a non-profit so they can maintain the image building he thrives on.

Amongst the independent third party element he is often referred to as “George Bush lite.”

Are you old, infirm, incapable of action? Why is it always pass it on to our children? Children learn hate, discrimination, selfishness and a myriad of other negative traits from ADULTS. Toon illustrates one thing extremely well, children are color blind until we teach them differently.

" Children learn hate, discrimination, selfishness and a myriad of other negative traits from ADULTS."

Studies show that babies raised in an environment that is predominately one color prefer people the same color as themselves, so some of this may be human nature. The conservative mindset embraces the concept that only people who are like you, are good.

I assume that most of the people posting here about “takers” & “thugs” have lived in a very homogeneous world & are frightened by the idea of losing their place at the top of things.

It wasn’t Bush that did the damage to habeas corpus. It was Obama when he signed off on the Defense Appropriations Act, 2012.
