Obama has been at the steering wheel for the last several years. It is also true the legislature has in a perverse bipartisan fashion done all it can to keep that bus from moving forward in every way it can. Whether it was the republicans with filibusters, focus on social issues rather than job creation as stated in so many 2010 campaigns, and bad faith negotiations with the executive, or the Democrats own focus on social issues and their insulting arrogant treatment of republicans while the dems held their brief, but insufficient majority, there has been ample participation in throwing people under the government bus.As my recovery continues, I’ll be looking more for a forum where these debates can be carried in a less mercurial fashion, and where moderation can be more efficient at blocking the posts of people who would rather slander and insult than actually address issues. Howgozit lists failures he, ScottPM, and others blame on Obama. There is no acknowledgement of any of the multitude of contributions to our current situation in which republicans were willing participants if not instigators. There are plenty of liberal posters who could take a more civil tone in this forum. Reading some of the posts by either side is sad and frightening. If you act towards people you meet away from the computer the way you act here, you are dangerous at best, sociopathic at worst. These last few weeks have been an experiment. I’m ready to call it a failure in the environment provided by this forum. There is little willingness to reach out in sincere debate and compromise. Rudeness and mean spirited commentary discourages people who might have good ideas from contributing, and the replies to some ideas make those shy of offering an opinion more likely to steer away from doing so.Both parties are at fault for where we are.Failure to recognize this and speak out against it keeps the wedge dividing neighbors firmly in place and helps candidates manipulate us on social issues while doing nothing to address jobs, infrastructure, etc.And no conservative has yet answered my question…if roe v wade is overturned, what penalties do you want levied on women, doctors, and fathers who support the decision to have an abortion.Since so many conservatives have a “shut up and die” attitude toward liberal opinions, I think many of you will want to see the death penalty. But the “For Profit” prison systems being approved in republican run states will be needing more incarcerated employees as they undercut Chinese sales and keep Americans from getting the work they need. Jobless americans who turn to crime in desperation will find new employment working for a prison. That is the world I see your side creating, Howgozit. A cold bleak corporate world where the poor and lower middle class scratch for crumbs while the elite and wealthy live in comfort in their towers and gated communities. Tell me, my conservative neighbors, you constantly cry out against the evils of socialism and the world it will create. What do you think your choice is going to do for this country? And how many of your neighbors should be allowed to be cast aside to get it?Respectfuly doesn’t work here. I want to be, but politeness against people slapping you in the face with lies and deceptions doesn’t warrant respect. So….Curiously,C.
