Does McCoy realize that if we’d never INVADED their country, and KILLED THEIR KIDS, they wouldn’t have our soldiers around to shoot at, or blow up? The “book flap” is just more right wing, anti-Islam, propaganda, period. Get out of their countries, NOW.

Whatever, the “annointed one” needs to remember what country he is “president” of.

As an infantry company commander currently serving in the further outreaches of rural Afghanistan, I’d like to shed some light on this topic. However trivial it may seem that some books were carelessly burned, the reality of the situation is that both Afghan civilians and US and GIRoA soldiers have been wounded or killed as a direct effect of this event. The threat of further backlash is still quite real, and none of us here are feeling comfortable. And for us on the front line, it’s caused quite a bit of anger that some foolish individuals who work in air conditioned offices, eat 3 or more hot meals a day, and share none of our dangers, can so recklessly endanger everything we are trying to do out here. The President was not wrong for apologizing, because if that’s what it takes to lessen the anger many of our Afghan partners are feeling toward us and mitigate the risk to our lives, then that is what he must do. I apologized as well, even though I had nothing to do with this nonsense, and I made it sound sincere as possible because I won’t add further insult and endanger the lives of my men. Being prideful is very easy when you aren’t responsible for the welfare of others.

I know, right? You never apologize when something happens on accident. I ran over my kid’s bike in the driveway, and I absolutely refused to say sorry. Why would that make him upset?

Obviously, the reaction of the protestors in Afghanistan was completely out of proportion to the act being protested, and I would never approve that. But neither did Obama – apologizing for our actions makes us BETTER than them, so what would refusing to apologize make us?

If an apology saves one American soldier from being injured much less killed it is worth it. Anyone who says otherwise is a traitor and has betrayed those who serve.

We may not understand the anger the Afghans have over the book burning but it is real and causes a real risk to our soldiers and marines.

^ I disagree; we need to stand by our principles that Americans are better than anyone else by never apologizing. And if soldiers get killed, no big deal. They signed up to the military ready to die for their country anyway, so what’s the loss?

Funny how the right keeps saying that Obama is wrong for apologizing because they aren’t apologizing for kiling our soldiers… first I thought we were supposed to be better than them… we have a higher standard right? thats why we can have nukes and we can decide who can have them right? Second… anyone who thinks apologizing for something you did wrong is a sign of weakness is stupid… and I mean literally… you are stupid, ignorant, not very bright. third… we need to stop saying THEY when its only a few radicals. (pssst… that’s called racism)
