College recruiters cross Fowler off list.

Neal must be familiar with Central NY, however, Corcoran and Nottingham are Class AA, and Solvay is Class B. They rarely, if ever, play each other, or a common opponent. So Milford boys have beaten one of the area’s better large schools and lost to a much smaller perennial also-ran. Very inconsistent. Fire the coach, bring in Marty the drunk. Dennis Hopper can play him in the movie version.

And around here Fowler is another AA school, not a depressed kid who can’t jump and has no shot.

Fowler’s game will explode after he grows one of those cool mustaches. Soon everyone on the team (including Gil and Kaz) will be sporting the new look. When the cheerleaders grow them, the Larks go undefeated!

Better look for a different actor to play Moon, Dennis Hopper is dead!

Is number 8 Jeremy Lin’s second cousin?

In many high schools (and the NCAA) 8 is an illegal number. No digit above a 5. (55 is good, 56 is not; 23 is good, 73 is not; 5 is good, but 8 is not). It makes it easier for the officials to signal who received fouls.

I’ve heard that rule. The odd thing is that the Olympics go the opposite way. For example Jordan couldn’t wear 23 but instead wore 9. Different rules everywhere I guess.

Pat, good catch. In the state of Iowa, the athletic commission decided a couple of years ago that referees would be required to signal the first digit of the player’s number with their right hand and the second digit with their left hand. This was to assist the scorekeeper who could read left to right from his vantage point who commited the foul. Good idea, except we have a one-armed ref around this area and he was a good sport about it as we teased him and he teased us on the table about how he was signaling numbers.

Gilfan, was the ref’s name Steve Boone?

Scott Fowler’s shot might be off because he’s thinking about Jay-Bird, but there’s no excuse for poor defense.

The Cubs had two pitchers who would have made interesting basketball referees. Mordecai ‘Three Finger’ Brown and Antonio Alfonseca, who had six fingers on both hands AND six toes on each foot. Mordecai could only high three and Antonio could outdo everyone by high sixing.
