    The way Slim has been acting lately maybe
    he’s starting to get Alzheimer’s.

    Wonder if this is all going to turn out to be a dream sequence. It’s just more and more bizarre!

    As best I remember,there are no dream sequences in the continung weekday stories. It is good to see Gretchen again. Perhaps she can be helpful to poor befudlled Slim, the Chester A. Rilley of GA.

    @Llewellenbruce

    Can’t be! That would imply that Slim had had a brain function high enough to be able to become diminished.

    Not recognizing your own daughter is just a wee bit too much.

    Like some of the commenters here, maybe Jim hates Slim, too.

    Gretchen was born on April 13, 1978. That makes her 35 years old. I don’t know when she last appeared in the GA comic strip. But I am glad to see the comic shift its focus to someone other than Slim for a change.

    I think Llewellenbruce is the closest. Maybe Jim is starting a story arc in which Slim has a stroke while Clovia is in Hawaii. This would explain all his mess-ups lately. Gretchen would take him to the emergency room and call Clovia. Then Clovia would have to leave Hawaii and rush home. It would make for a good story. Maybe the stroke happened when Slim swallowed that brooch back on May 22.

    Fantastic. I think someone must have read our comments. Anyway the thing about Slim not recognizing her is just so readers who started reading this strip in the twenty years since Gretchen last appeared will know who she is.

    Holy Moses! I don’t think we’ve seen Gretchen since she was in high school (which I why I picked her for that alternate storyline I wrote on the old TMS board back in 2007). I’m a little concerned about how she appears here, though—the ponytail and the backpack don’t say “35-year-old career woman” to me, they say “20-year-old college student.” Her face doesn’t look like she’s in her 30s, either, but then Clovia doesn’t look 64 either, so maybe it’s the Wallet/Rumpus genes.

    Amazing! As to apparent age, however, I admit I was still being carded at 30. Then I got married and had kids. Started looking closer to my actual age. : o
