Cypress Creek has a Hammock District, some town must have a Comb District.

Barbershop Row would serve the same purpose.

I just googled “comb district” and got nothing useful.

It might have something to do with the fact that the language has between 36 and 44 distinct sounds (depending on your dialect and/or accent) and only 26 letters to represent them.

True, but I think more relevant is the fact that spelling standardized before pronunciation did, not that pronunciation is that much standardized. I cringe every time i hear a BBC announcer say “poweh” for “power”. And then there was the woman from Texas who answered my phone call “Kin Ah hep yew?”

Years ago, I had to call about a phone related problem for our company office in Atlanta. The phone was answered “South’n Bayal.” The speakers who annoy me are the ones who drop “g” – runnin, eatin, etc.

When men are of a certain age they become part of a comb-over district.
