    I thought John was a model train fanatic. (This also reminds of the Calvin/Hobbes storyline where Calvin tries to make model F-14 jet or something.)

    @TEMPLO S.U.D.

    This probably predates his train obsession. Considering all the problems he’s having with the plane, it’s no wonder he’s switched hobbies. (Besides, the engines and cars are usually pre-assembled.

    Lynn’s Notes:
    My husband had all kinds of models. He loved to make them just for the fun of figuring them out. He even built a model aircraft when we were on our honeymoon, so modelling was definitely in his blood. He could focus for hours, shaving off an infinitesimal piece of plastic here, fitting an impossibly tiny piece there. He had endless patience when it came to building complicated model ships, vehicles, and aircraft. Interestingly, he had much less patience with kids!

    I tried my hand at building models. I did poorly. Too much messy, sticky glue.

    My X was like this when it came to building model aircraft (mostly WarBirds) and Cars (mostly muscle cars). Thankfully he had and has a ton of patience with children.

    Uh, those moveable surfaces he’s putting on on the tail are NOT the flaps, they’re the elevators and rudder.

    Usually, but not always. I bought my husband a model kit of an HO scale “crane car”. It must have had hundreds of tiny pieces. He never did finish it.

    I’m glad some of the commenters are perfect people. Their lives must be so dull. Thanks again, Lynn, for helping us laugh at ourselves.

    I’ve been reading some FBorFW strips from 2008 when Lynn started to redraw the strip in the old style. Are they re-runs now or still new original ones (old style)?

    I remember “Arthur” when Arthur put together an airplane model. The biggest challenge was D. W. constantly trying to mess with it. He finally puts it together and D.W. decides to make it fly by throwing it out the bedroom window, which of course wrecks it. And then claims it was already broken because it wouldn’t fly.
