“Did you go there to study?” is a pretty dimwitted question, actually.

It was probably the only quiet place he could find to sleep.

RanaRavens: You don’t have to study in a library. A lot of people go there to READ and other things! So it’s not such a dim-witted question, actually.

I went into the library on my campus because they had the quietest and cleanest bathrooms.

I think I also checked out a book from there. Once.

When I was in college a lot of students went to the library to sleep in the downstairs lobby. Their dorms were too noisy at night to sleep.

Been there, done that. “Parcival” makes a great pillow! After lunch it’s just impossible not to fall asleep reading, so you might as well give in to it.

To read, to study… or to just write dirty graffiti on the cubicle walls. Or to make out with your latest whatever in the cubicles. And sometimes, some people end up sleeping, too.

    Lynn’s Notes:
This quote was right from the dentist’s mouth. My husband told me that in university there was so much going on in his residence, he went to the library to sleep!

    I can believe that.

When I went to our main public library for research from class, there was a man who actually fell asleep and security guard woke him up told him he could not sleep there in the chair. Whispering talk at times too loud.

Interesting that in the US, we still say “college” rather than university, even though almost all of our former colleges have reorganized themselves into universities.

You may remember a few years back, when Lynn Johnston was getting ready to start all these reprints, she rewrote the story of John meeting Elly for the first time in the medical library at the University of Toronto, as Elly was a young English major busy studying in the medical library in order to get her M.R.S. degree. Obviously she was successful. In the rewritten version John wasn’t that sleepy in the library.

Every time I fell asleep in the library I got kicked out.
I snore. Really bad. I could even wake myself up snoring.
I now have a CPAP machine, and no more snoring. But the machine makes so much noise they won’t allow it in the library.
