Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

Yes and John, you should cherish every moment, even reshoveling the snow from where the kids laugh and play.

One of the perils of having kids.

Let’s hear it for Arizona, where snow is only something that I remember from my years of growing up in winter states! :-P

This one is very similar to an old Little Nipper comic strip by the late, great Doug Wright.

I think I would be more disappointed that I didn’t get to see the kids enjoying themselves. Watching your kids/grandkids have so much fun is one of the great pleasures of life.

Maybe if you help the children to want to help clean the walk way again they can learn things aren’t free.

All of our snow melted today, it was 60 degrees.

Lynn’s Notes:
The path from our front door to the driveway on Tally-Ho Road was perhaps 25 feet long, but it seemed much longer when you shovelled it. When I did this strip, we were all living in Northern Ontario, but shovelling snow is the same wherever you are. No matter how often you create a clean space, within minutes something always manages to fill it in.

Well, I remember getting 9 inches of the garbage in Tucson one night. My palm trees looked terrible covered in snow!

This makes me glad I moved from Philly to the beach in NC. Now I have to big “sand shovels” in my garage!

great comics never get old and this is a keeper. WE don’t get much snow in Texas but when we do it is a childs wonderland and no space is safe. Great cartoon, thanks.
