    Lynn Johnston has done this kind of strip before when Michael was younger. The different perspective this time is that Michael feels rejected as a result of his parents trying to get him to go to bed. The past strips were more parent-oriented.

    To paraphrase what I commented on today’s C&H comic; Parents need peace in their day.

    I can feel for Mike – everything has to be in order to fall asleep!

    And after that drink of water, it’ll be “I hafta go to the bathroom!”. And in the morning, it’ll be a tired and cranky kid, which no parent wants. Stay in bed already!

    Like Lynn’s son “Aaron” (see her notes) …I too am a night owl. I LOVE to work 12am-8am shifts, and sleep 8am-4pm, then do my grocery shopping etc.
    I DESPISE getting up out of bed, before 8am. UGH, it should be illegal! :D

    i used to get out of bed for water or other excuses to see what my parents were up to when i was young…it all seemed so exciting!

    never had that problem with my daughter… i finally had to give her “permanent permission” to go to the bathroom so she’d stop calling me in there (as soon as I got sat down) just to ask me if she could get up to go.

    Gee, how’d you guess, Mike? It is nice to have some time alone with one’s thoughts, in front of a comfy computer . . .

    howtheduck, these are all “past strips.” Lynn Johnston retired awhile ago.

    Lynn’s Notes:
    Aaron had one excuse after another for not going to bed. It seemed as though he never slept. I would hear him late at night doing stuff in his room and I wondered when he’d get into a “normal” routine. Well, he’s almost 40 now and he’s still a night owl. It’s not unusual for him to be up and working at 3:00 am!

    I am that way as well, a Night Owl. Not a Morning Person at all.

    @HelmetHead

    Lynn Johnson has occasionally done new art to fill in gaps from the past.
