Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

Wrong answer brother. We are only allowed to think those kinds of responses, not actually say them.

But I do need a wife. Otherwise, I have no reason to pick up after myself.

Wife? The word gives you the hives. Personally, I don’t see why Ellie should even care. She doesn’t have to live in your squalor; nor her kids, but she still wants to tell you how to live. Stand your ground, Phil; a bachelor has a right to order his own life.

Could this strip be any more out-of-touch and sexist? This sounds like a punch line from the 40s or 50s. I think it’s time for me to spare myself the aggravation and stop reading it.

It is 29 years old, a woman created it; a woman, who, in that 29 years became well known as a husband basher. You figure. If I see your comment tomorrow, I’ll remember you said that.

Whoo boy! Another fun day in FBOFW! I’ll just say I’d like a wife too, and slink away.

I disagree. Somebody should tell him – if not his own sister, who will? She shouldn’t throw a fit or anything, but if left unchecked …. Have you SEEN the show “Hoarders”?
