The only trouble with what’s going through Mike’s head is, it only works once.

Speaking as a (former) teacher, the gifts I appreciated most were gifts for the classroom – a book for the in-room library, craft supplies, etc.

Reminds me of The Choate School – They were so proud of the fact that all graduating 6th Formers (you do want your diploma, don’t you?) made a contribution to the alumni fund. Charged to your parents of course. 1956 – the first, last and only time I gave anything to Choate.

At my child’s school, they hit you up at the beginning of the year for a teacher gift, so it’s too early to form an opinion. Pretty sneaky…

How is trusting elementary students with collecting money?

@litcia391 — trusting elementary school GIRLS with collecting money. There’s a big responsibility gap there.

You might be wondering why the girls made a distinction between 8-year-old Michael’s own money vs. his parent’s money. After all, most 8-year-olds don’t have an independent source of income.

Back in the old days, little Michael had a side business as a stunt double for Linus van Pelt. If you look carefully at “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”, there are some scenes in the pumpkin patch where it’s really Michael Patterson.
