I never had a summer reading list when I was a student, but have always loved to read. When I homeschooled our sons, I didn’t assign a summer reading list, but took them to the public library on a weekly basis, so they could select books to read. Plus, we had literally hundreds of books throughout the house, so there was always something available to read. One son loves to read. The other one will read only what he’s really interested in reading, but considering his learning difficulties with reading, he’s doing great.Classics that I thought we needed to read, I would read aloud to them. Then we could discuss what was read, at dinner/while traveling, etc. That way we were all at the same place in the book at the same time. Even got my reluctant reader husband interested in books that he would never had read otherwise. Great family entertainment (until I got tired!)
