…if you pay with cash for everything you don’t need a credit score.

When I retired, I paid off the mortgage and all my credit cards. The only thing I have to worry about is the utilities, real estate tax on my house, insurance and upkeep on my car, taxes and licenses on the car and my groceries. I got a new furnance and a new water heater. Who needs a credit score?

I recently looked up my credit score and they love me! But the score could have been higher because of my credit cards. I didn’t have enough!

They figure the more credit cards you have had (even counting closed accounts), the more credit you have been granted so somebody must think you are credit-worthy. The fact I could suddenly max them all out and skip the country doesn’t seem to bother them.
