Cartoonists John Gibel and Jenny Campbell have created a spirited and intelligent look at aging and the generation gap. This strip features a group of older women and men dealing with the perils and perks of being old, the rules of chocolate, and dealing with families. Flo and Friends is graceful, poignant, full of humor.

Happy the Clam was the mascot of the Portland, Oregon Clamdiggers, a Major League Human Cannonball team. So that expression dates to at least the 1930’s.

I think the complete quote is: “Happy as a clam at high tide” from the The Three Musketeers. d’Artagnan said this at one point in the story.

Correct. Clams are happy at high tide since they can only be dug (harvested) at low tide.
